The fascinating history of Cheddar illustrated through old and modern pictures in a fully updated edition.
The unique and picturesque village of Cheddar has a long and ancient history, from world-famous landmarks to local myths and ghost stories. From as early as 1130 the beauty of Cheddar Gorge was recognised as one of the ‘Four Wonders of England’. It is through archive and contemporary photographs that the distinctive landscape and history of Cheddar is captured and successfully celebrated.

Serving as both a practical guidebook and a nostalgic look back for residents of the village, this book will explore Cheddar from the depths of the caves to the top of the gorge. Throughout the last century, Cheddar has progressed and created its own niche on the map. From strawberries and cheese to distinctive tourist attractions, this book makes it clear that Cheddar should be on the map for any tourist of the UK. This is the fully up-to-date version of Cheddar Through Time.

Andrew Pickering has lived in Selwood Forest for over 30 years, initially in Frome and more recently in Bruton. He is the owner of Bruton’s principal bookshop and also Chair of the Committee of the town’s museum. Nicola is a local history author who lives in Cheddar, Somerset.
