Ice hockey has a long and illustrious history, stretching back to the nineteenth century when games were played on frozen lakes and in outdoor arenas. The NHL was formed more than 75 years ago and is, after baseball, the second longest surviving sports league in America, although its championship trophy, the Stanley Cup, predates the World Series by 20 years. The Official NHL Illustrated History is an authoritative and comprehensive illustrated work of ice hockey reference, covering every facet of a game. The book tells the story of the NHL, from its earliest inceptions to the present day. It provides essential information on all the top players and the leading teams. Every player, event and issue of importance in the history of the NHL is referred to somewhere in the book. Written by an acknowledged authority on ice hockey, this book is the definitive work on the NHL, with every page a visually exciting and information-packed celebration of the sport. This book will find an appeal wherever ice hockey is followed, and is destined to become the immediate market leader.

Arthur Pincus was Vice President Public Relations for the National Hockey League for six years. He also served as the League's Editorial Director, helping produce such books as A Day in the Life of the National Hockey League and Total Hockey: The Official Encyclopedia of the National Hockey League, for which he was Senior Consulting Editor. He also helped create the NHL-licensed publications, PowerPlay and FaceOff magazines. Mr Pincus has been the Sports Editor of the Washington Post, the Executive Editor of Sports Inc. magazine, a sports business weekly published by Times Mirror, and the Deputy Sports Editor of the New York Times. He is the author of two books on sports language. He lives in New York City and is now an independent editorial consultant and author.
