Atomic Spectra and Oscillator Strengths for Astrophysics and Fusion Research

The 1989 Amsterdam Colloquium on the needs for atomic data in astrophysics and fusion brought together about 70 astrophysicists and atomic physicists to discuss the situation, at the threshold of the launch of several new space probes, with regard to atomic data needs in astrophysics and fusion and the possibilities for providing these data from experiment or computation. This book contains all the invited papers as well as extended abstracts of the contributed papers given at the meeting. The astrophysical and fusion papers concern traditional as well as new subjects in which knowledge of atomic data is necessary or crucial and needed now while the atomic physicists concern themselves with what is known at the moment and what can be provided in the near future either by experiment or by theory. The book will be useful for astrophysicists wanting to know where to look for atomic data and wanting to know the accuracy of the data as well as the possibilities for obtaining even more accurate data. For the atomic physicist the book can be used to see where the main data requirements in astrophysics and fusion lie at the moment.
