This survey features over 70 glass artists, from Harvey Littleton and Erwin Eisch to 21st-century practitioners such as Bertil Vallien and Dale Chihuly. Each entry describes the artists working methods and style
Written by international glass expert Dan Klein, Artists in Glass provides an up-to-date survey of the international art glass movement, exploring its dynamic history, and looking to its future through the lives and works of nearly 80 of the world's best glass artists. The book includes both those who had a formative influence on the movement such as Harvey Littleton and Erwin Eisch, and the great practitioners of today, among them Dante Marioni and Giles Bettison, and features previously unpublished work by new artists. The author explores each artist in turn, discussing their influences, training, and technique alongside an in-depth discussion of their work. An introduction provides an overview of the art glass movement while a detailed glossary gives explanations of key terms. Also included are a selective bibliography, and details of galleries worldwide where glass art can be seen. Illustrated with 300 superb pieces of glass, Artists in Glass provides a stunning resource for today's glass-makers, design historians, and collectors of this increasingly popular area of contemporary design.

Dan Klein is one of the world's experts in studio glass. In 1984 he joined Christie's London as Director of 20th-century Decorative Arts, and in 1989 became Vice President of Christie's Switzerland while continuing his role as Director in charge of Decorative Arts throughout Europe. In 1998 he became International Executive Director of Phillips, London, while also assuming an amount of responsibility for their offices in New York, and throughout North America. The author of numerous articles for magazines worldwide, his publications include The History of Glass (Orbis, 1984), Decorative Arts from 1880 to the Present Day (Phaidon, 1986), Glass: A Contemporary Art (Collins/Rizzoli, 1989), and International New Glass: Venezia Aperto Vetro (Arsenale Editrice, 1996). Dan lectures regularly on Contemporary Glass at museums around the world, and has taken several charity auctions in the US. An external examiner to the Glass and Ceramics department at London's Royal College of Art, Dan also serves on the board of the Pilchuck Glass School near Seattle.
