A town born of gold, Arrowtown has retained much of its goldfields character and is one of New Zealand's most picturesque places. This book introduces the town, its history and natural history, and gives detailed descriptions of walks, short and long.
The book serves as a guide to the area and as an attractive souvenir. It describes local natural history, the geology that gave rise to the gold and scheelite mining industries, and outlines the town's history. Two chapters are devoted to detailed descriptions of walks around Arrowtown's historic buildings and in the tussock-covered hills and gullies north of the town. The book is illustrated with numerous historical and contemporary photographs, as well as maps.

Julia Bradshaw is a researcher and writer who lives on the West Coast near Kokatahi. She has worked in museums for twelve years and is currently employed at Shantytown, near Greymouth.
