Among the many extraordinary and unusual jobs Jema pursed before writing took hold was that of wedding cake designer and decorator. Her devotion to culinary perfection is second only to her pursuit of the ideal corset as she toils in her little studio, making beautiful things from fabric, beads, wire and string, as well as cake and icing. Her work is exhibited in museums and galleries across Great Britain, and she has a large international fan base among the Steampunk and altered art communities. 'Emilly Ladybird' is Jema's Steampunk alter ego, who leads a terribly exciting life, hunting down treasures for auctioneers Dickens and Rivett while attending parties with leading figures from Victorian history and fiction.
