Touches on many different areas including customs and traditions, traditional British food and many more.
Britain's cultural history is engrained with a plethora of idiosyncratic phenomena, from cockney rhyming slang to Yorkshire pudding and from cheese rolling to bangers and mash. There is a lot to celebrate about being British and this book reminds the indigenous and educates the visitors about our great buildings and way of life. Whether it is the grandeur of York Minster, or the history of the Tower of London and Durham Cathedral or excitement of the London Eye, there are a host of spectacular buildings in Britain. If you want to read more about red post boxes, fish and chips, Charles Dickens, William Shakespeare or great words like codswallop, skew-whiff or toodle pip, then Being British, is the light-hearted book for you!

Maureen Hughes b.1948 d.2014 Maureen was born in York and sent to the Bar Convent to be educated. Her mother Vera instilled in her daughter, a love of education, reading and learning. During her life time Maureen wrote eight musicals (one of which enjoyed a short run in London's West End in 1990). In addition, she has written five books as well as co-writing this one with her son, Kieran. Maureen spent most of her life as a teacher, in schools and colleges. She was described by her students as an inspiration, many of whom attended her funeral in January 2015, in Epsom where she had lived with her husband Gwyn and daughter Victoria. Kieran Hughes b.1969- Kieran, son of Maureen, was born in Liverpool, spent his childhood in Shrewsbury, then spent the first part of his life in London, as a journalist and newsreader on BBC and commercial radio. By his late thirties he had started university to study for two degrees and teacher training. His Mum had persuaded him that he would make a good teacher! Kieran now teaches history full-time at a school in High Wycombe. He has four sons, seven grandchildren and lives with his wife Bridget near the town centre.
