This title features a foreword by Len Deighton. On 15 June 1919 John Alcock and Arthur Whitten Brown took off from Newfoundland, America, to attempt the first non-stop crossing of the Atlantic Ocean. Some 16 hours and 1,900 miles later they landed in Connemara, Ireland, to become national heroes. Now published in paperback, this is the first accurate account of one of history's most significant and dramatic flights, made in an open-cockpit Vickers Vimy converted bomber. The author draws on the personal records and flying logbook of the pilots, and sets the story against the birth of manned power flight and the aftermath of World War One in Britain.

Brendan Lynch is a former Grand Prix correspondent for UK and Irish media including The Observer, Daily Mail and Irish Press. As a supporter of Bertrand Russell, he was imprisoned for anti-nuclear protests in the 1960s. He has written five books, including the award-winning motor racing history Green Dust. He lives in Dublin.

A great true adventure story of the first non-stop crossing of the Atlantic by aeroplane. Alcock and Brown flew 1,900 miles and broke the record for the longest distance flown by man. Draws on the personal records and flying logbook of the pilots. Interview with the late Steve Fossett, the adventurer who recreated the flight in 2005. Interview with Harry O'Sullivan, the last surviving witness of Alcock and Brown's epic arrival in Ireland. Compiled using the author's research in Newfoundland, London and Connemara. The legacy of the flight examined. Hardback ISBN: 978 1 84425 681 5 (published February 2009).
