A handful of Summers is a delightfully uninhibited insider's account of what it was like playing tennis on the international circuit in the 1950s and 1960s - both on and off the court - as the tennis world stumbled from so-called amateurism into professionalism. These were the days of Rod Layer, Roy Emerson, Lew Hoad, Maria Bueno, Virginia Wade ...and Abe Segal. Gordon Forbes observed them all keenly and recalls them and all the lesser lights, and the days and nights they shared, with affection and gentle irony.
