Suitable for those working with others through issues relating to lack of assertiveness, and those who themselves realise their need to learn this skill, this book helps you learn to say no where appropriate and to express our thoughts, feelings and desires in a way that doesn't abuse others.
Break with people-pleasing and build healthy relationshipsFor those who struggle to assert themselves, life can be draining. Often plagued by a need to say 'Yes' to every request, non-assertive people can find they are looking after everyone's needs but their own. This in turn can lead to hidden resentment, frustration and anger.

Topics tackled in this book include:

The origins of non-assertive behaviour
Identifying unhelpful thought patterns
Dealing with uncomfortable emotions
Accepting who we are in Christ
As well as a wealth of straightforward and Bible-based wisdom, this book offers real-life case studies and, at the end of each chapter, suggestions for personal reflection, activities and prayer to help those struggling with a lack of assertiveness or those seeking to help someone they know.

The Waverley Abbey Insight Series is based on one-day seminars held by CWR at Waverley Abbey House to give insight into some key issues that many people struggle with today.

Christine worked for 16 years as a counsellor, supervisor and trainer in the NHS, and is now in private practice. She enjoys speaking at Christian meetings both here and abroad, and leads CWR training days. Besides ‘Inspiring Women Every Day’, Chris has written two books, and co-authored the CWR ‘Insight’ series books on anger, anxiety and self-esteem. Christine leads the Prayer Ministry Team at Greyfriars Church, Reading, where she and husband, John, are Licensed Lay Ministers. With a heart to reach the ordinary person in the street with the love of Jesus, she co-leads Prayer Café outreach. Having two married daughters and five grandchildren to have fun with, life is never dull! Christine Orme is a freelance writer, editor and teacher, and an Anglican Lay Reader. When she has time she enjoys reading, walking, gardening, patchwork and travel. She and her husband Eddie have four adult children and four small grandchildren. Working with VSO in Sri Lanka after university and before teaching in the UK opened her eyes to the needs of developing countries and sharpened her interest in the Fair Trade movement. Chris's greatest life-challenge to date was losing almost all her hearing in 1986.
