A daughter seeks to connect with her enigmatic father on a tour of French wine country, in this hilarious memoir that will appeal to readers of Peter Mayle and Julie Powell.
Philippe Borel is a retired hotelier, former chef and eccentric genius. His daughter Kathryn is a clone of her father in every way but one - she's a wine idiot. Philippe has dedicated a chunk of his life to researching, collecting and studying wine and, at 26, Kathryn realises that by shutting herself off to her father's wine-stained orations she has shut herself off from an integral part of him and so she proposes a father-daughter road trip. CORKED is the account of their tour through Alsace, Burgundy, Cotes du Rhone and the Languedoc. Though CORKED is a book for anyone who has ever become paralyzed with terror after being handed the wine list at a restaurant, or has never understood how wine can taste like beetroot, wet dog, cigar smoke, coffee bean, or anything other than 'winey', it is above all for anyone who has woken up one morning to the realization that their parents will one day die and in the name of love and genes and existential insight and friendship, have wanted to figure out who they are.

Kathryn Borel was born in Toronto, the daughter of a hotelier. She spent her early years living in hotels in Paris, Bermuda, Dallas and New Jersey before settling in Quebec City. In 2002 she moved back to Toronto where she still lives and she works at the Canadian Broadcasting Company, where she works as a food and drink writer and reviewer
