This highly regarded manual includes a new introduction by the author in which he looks at the latest developments in general terms reflecting safety since the first edition. From practice fences at home up to three-day event standard and courses at all levels, the emphasis in this practical guide is on building safe courses, with fences that inspire confidence--and won't break the bank. This comprehensive guide is crammed with valuable insights for course designers and builders, riders, coaches, organisers and officials.

Hugh Morshead comes from a line of horse people. Hugh grew up in Ireland. Hugh began course building in 1978, mostly in Canada and in the U.S.; but also in New Zealand and Ireland.
