This visual journey through the landscape of the west is a distinctive collection of striking images from the Ring of Kerry to majestic Ben Bulben in Sligo, from MacGillycuddy's Reeks to Achill Island and the Twelve Bens. Carsten has created a symphony of light, shape and colour to record the West of Ireland in a fresh and unexpected manner.
The west of Ireland is a varied landscape with sandy beaches, towering cliffs, rolling fields, lonely bogland, ancient forests and mountains. Often stunningly beautiful and in places threatened, its rough-hewn beauty and diversity has captivated writers and artists, natives and newcomers. Carsten Krieger is a resident newcomer. Here he presents the west of Ireland as never seen before. This visual journey is a distinctive collection of striking images from the Ring of Kerry to majestic Ben Bulben in Sligo. But often Carsten wandered off the beaten track to discover hidden gems. Close-ups of rocks, sand, trees, fishing nets and turf banks feature beside big vistas like Macgillycuddy's Reeks, Achill Island and the Twelve Bens. The changing face of the west from season to season is reflected in the ever-changing panoramas of weather, colour and light found in that rich landscape. This is more than another photo book. It represents many years' work as Carsten travelled in all seasons to create this symphony of light, shape and colour to record the west of Ireland in a fresh and unexpected manner.

Carsten Krieger, a former oncology nurse from Southern Germany, visited Ireland in 1989, fell in love with the place and now lives in County Clare. A professional outdoor photographer, his award-winning images of the Irish landscape are far from the cliched cottages and green fields. Like his heroes Joe Cornish and Paul Wakefield, Carsten believes landscape photography can help protect and raise awareness of the natural world. His first book was The Fertile Rock - Seasons in the Burren (Cork, 2006).
