From wing walking in Gloucestershire and bottle kicking in Leicestershire to pigeon fancying in Sunderland and ale brewing in Stirling, this title investigates British local communities to uncover strange festivals, inspirational people and treasured traditions that reveal what it is that makes our country so incredible.
Tired of the endless tarmac and Little Chefs, and keen to see more on his travels than the tail-lights of the car in front of him, Robbie Coltrane has set himself quite a challenge. Instead of scaling the Himalayas, trekking across the Antarctic or hacking through the Brazilian rainforest, he has decided to explore strange and exotic areas that are somewhat closer to home. Armed only with a map, an inquisitive mind and one of his favourite classic cars - a Carmen-red drophead Jaguar XK150S - he ventures off the beaten track and on to the B-roads of deepest, darkest Britain.Travelling from London to Glasgow in search of the impressive, the eccentric and, sometimes, the downright ridiculous, Robbie's journey takes us through stunning countryside into the heart of Great Britain. From wing walking in Gloucestershire and bottle kicking in Leicestershire to pigeon fancying in Sunderland and ale brewing in Stirling, Robbie delves deep into our local communities to uncover strange festivals, inspirational people and treasured traditions that reveal exactly what it is that makes our country so incredible, so bizarre and so, well, British.

Robbie Coltrane is one of the UK's most prolific and respected film and television actors. He first gained popularity in the early 1980s for his appearances on such shows as Saturday Night Live, and since then he has starred in numerous television shows, including Blackadder the Third, Blackadder's Christmas Carol, Tutti Frutti (for which he received a BAFTA nomination) and The Robbie Coltrane Special. He is perhaps best known for his work in the award-winning and internationally popular television series Cracker, which brought him numerous acting honours, including three consecutive BAFTA awards for Best Television Actor. Also a sought-after actor on the other side of the Atlantic, Robbie has starred in countless Hollywood blockbusters including Nuns on the Run and The Pope Must Die (for which he received the Peter Sellers Award for Comedy), Stormbreaker, Ocean's Twelve, From Hell, The World Is Not Enough and Goldeneye. He continues to delight millions of adults and children alike as Rubeus Hagrid, caretaker of Hogwarts, in all of the phenomenally successful Harry Potter films. Robbie was awarded the OBE in the 2006 New Year's Honours List for his services to drama.
