This handy pocket-sized guidebook contains detailed route descriptions for canyoning in 5 limestone areas in southern Europe, Costa Blanca, the Pyrenees, Provence, Sardinia and Mallorca. It provides a basic grounding in canyoning techniques and skills for those who are less experienced as well as challenges for those with the required skills.
A guide to canyoning in the limestone areas of the western Mediterranean, stretching from the Costa Blanca in southern Spain via the Pyrenees to Provence in southern France, Sardinia and Mallorca. Canyoning - the descent of natural gorges by a mixture of hiking, scrambling, swimming and abseiling - is a mix of the fun and the adventurous. This book includes a selection of recommended gorge descents, ranging from two-hour strolls to long-day aquatic expeditions. The more technical expeditions involve abseiling and scrambling yet most canyons are within reach for anyone with these skills and, in the case of wet canyons, a one-piece wetsuit. The friendly Mediterranean canyons are great places to 'learn the ropes', and the guide therefore provides a basic grounding in techniques and skills for the less experienced.

John has been climbing, walking and mountaineering for over 30 years. He grew up on the fringes of the Lake District, and has travelled to the mountain areas of Europe, North America and other parts of the world. He has climbed in 30-odd countries and contributed to several rock-climbing guides. He descended his first canyon in the Sierra de Guara in 1992 and has since made numerous trips combining climbing and canyoning in the sun.
