'Under the Olive Tree' is a story of family life and food in Lugano, an elegant city clinging to the edges of a Swiss Lake near the northern Italian border, and the sapphire seas of the Costa Smeralda in Sardegna, Italy. Manuela Darling-Gansser, along with photographer Simon Griffiths, goes on an inspirational journey as she revisits the memories, sights, smells and tastes of her home town and the summer holidays of her childhood. Eat salami and mountain cheeses with red wine in the tiny grotto restaurants in the remote valleys of southern Switzerland.

Manuela Darling-Gansser was born in 1949 in Lugano, Switzerland. She spent her early childhood years in Iran before returning to school in Zurich. An inveterate traveller and keen linguist she has lived in the USA, Japan, Italy and the UK and visited other parts of Asia, India and north Africa. Inspired by family traditions, she has been a passionate cook all her adult life. Simon Griffiths is a leading photographer of garden, food and travel. He has undertaken overseas assignments for Gourmet Traveller and his work appears regularly in other magazines such as House and Garden and Vogue Living. He was the photographer for the best-selling Stephanie Alexander and Maggie Beer's Tuscan Cookbook and the ground-breaking food and travel books Salute and Walking the Dog in Italy..
