Cape Town on foot

Cape Town on Foot, the guide is divided into two parts. The first part introduces the reader to the historic monuments, statues and buildings of the city centre and the Company Gardens, assisted by a precise map. It highlights their historical importance and highlights architectural features. From the city centre the reader is taken on a walk along the narrow lanes of the Bo-Kaap, tracing the historical, cultural and religious roots of this colourful suburb on the slopes of Signal Hill and finally introduces the colourful story of the Waterfront. A photographic insert of black and white photographs of old Cape Town allows a nostalgic glimpse into the past architectural splendour of the city. After the walk through town, the Bo-Kaap and the Waterfront, the visitor is taken on an historic journey through the ages. The culture and destiny of the indigenous Khoikhoi and San peoples are explained, the story of the Portuguese voyages of discovery told; legends and impressions of early travellers are recorded, the history of the city and the Cape is told, from the arrival of European settlers before the coming of the Dutch to the end of the 19th century.
