All the information you need to walk the North Downs Way.
Trailblazer's guide to North Downs Way shows the route in both directions from Farnham to Dover and from Dover to Farnham.
The North Downs Way is a 131.6-mile (211.6km) National Trail that runs from Farnham in Surrey to Dover in Kent, partly following the old Pilgrims’ Way to the shrine of St Thomas à Becket at Canterbury. It winds through the protected landscape of the Surrey Hills and the Kent Downs passing medieval churches, castles, Neolithic burial sites, vineyards and numerous WWII defences. There are literary associations with Swift, Cobbett, Charles Dickens and Jane Austen. It’s not a difficult walk, with few steep ascents or descents. An alternative route runs via Folkestone.
This handy, pocket size North Downs Way guide includes:
12 town plans and 90 large-scale walking maps - at just under 1:20,000 (or 3 1/8 inches to 1 mile), showing route times, places to stay, points of interest and much more
10 stage maps/itineraries for all walkers - whether walking the route in its entirety over seven to eight days or sampling the highlights on day walks and short breaks
Practical information for all budgets - camping, bunkhouses, hostels, B&Bs, pubs and hotels – where to stay, where to eat, what to see, plus detailed street plans
Comprehensive public transport information - for all access points on the path
Flora and fauna - four-page, full-colour flower guide, plus an illustrated section on local wildlife
Green hiking - understanding the local environment and minimizing our impact on it
GPS waypoints with what3words references - these are also downloadable from the Trailblazer website.
Extra mapping - route now fully covered via Folkestone as well as via Canterbury
This new 3rd edition has been rewalked, re-researched and redesigned as a two-way guide.
John Curtin wrote the first edition of this guide. John writes about gentle adventure, outdoor pursuits and gardening. Occasionally accompanied by his wife, his Spaniel and sometimes a very slow but endearing wheaten terrier, his travels are only limited by the responsibility of providing a year round supply of organic vegetables from his allotment garden at the foot of the North Downs Way in Albury, Surrey. Henry Stedman is a walker of considerable experience, having hiked in many parts of Europe, Asia and Africa, and he has been writing guidebooks for more than a quarter of a century. He's the author and co-author of numerous guides from Trailblazer including as co-author with Joel Newton The South-West-Coast-Path mini-series Parts 1-3, and as author Hadrian's Wall Path, Coast to Coast Path, Dales Way, Kilimanjaro the Trekking Guide, Cleveland Way, London LOOP and he has updated Pembrokeshire Coast Path, Offa's Dyke Path, The Ridgeway, The Inca Trail, Cusco & Machu Picchu 6th edition. With him on this trek, as with every walk he does in the UK, was Daisy, his (mostly) faithful dog.
