Her interest in climbing came late considering this triumph, when, as a journalist, she accompanied an Anglo-American expedition on Everest's North East Ridge in 1989. Her interest grew and in four years of climbing she scaled some of the world's major peaks: Mont Blanc, Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Kenya and Mount McKinley.
