The guidebook's 30 circular walks are all about 6 miles in length, covering the wild and beautiful Lancashire countryside. They are ideal as half-day family rambles. Since 1612, when ten Pendle witches went to the scaffold, a magical aura has pervaded this mysterious area. Hand written and illustrated.
An illustrated guide to 30 short circular walks on and around Pendle Hill. Hand-written and profusely illustrated in Jack Keighley's unique and highly distinctive style. All the walks are circular and fairly uniform in length, with an average of about 6 miles, making them ideal as half-day family rambles. In 1612 ten 'Pendle Witches' went to the scaffold. These miserable wretches and their supposed victims lived in the villages and farmsteads surrounding Pendle Hill. Though nearly four centuries have since elapsed, the magical aura of witchcraft still pervades an area which is as wild and beautiful now as it was in King James's day. Access is easy along the A56 and A59, whilst the M65 extends from the national motorway network into the heart of Lancashire Witch Country.

Jack Keighley has developed a unique style of guidebooks based on his own research and artistic skills. Born in Rimington, he taught at Park Secondary School, Colne, in 1959/60 before becoming a headmaster in Yorkshire. He now lives in Skipton and is accompanied on his walks by his faithful Border terrier, Brandy.
