An account of a journey Norman Lewis made in 1934 with his Sicilian brother-in-law, Eugene Corvaja, to the cathedral in Seville, the site of the Corvaja family tomb. But Spain is on the brink of Civil War and by the time they reach Madrid, the bullets are flying.
In 1934 Norman Lewis and his Sicilian brother-in-law Eugene Corvaja set out on a journey to visit the cathedral in Seville, the site of the Corvaja family tomb. Spain is on the brink of civil war so the travellers embark on foot, walking a hundred miles, sleeping in caves and seeing parts of Spain no tourist had ever visited. Bullets fly around them in Madrid. They are forced to take a detour into Portugal, where they come across a village where a witch has recently been burnt at the stake. And when they finally find the Corvaja tomb, things are not quite what they expected . . .

Norman Lewis was born in London. The author of thirteen novels and fourteen works of non-fiction, he died in 2003.
