One Mile at a Time

Being born and raised on African soil, it was not easy suddenly having to adapt to life in a completely new environment.At the age of 22, Maya Kreuter moved from Zimbabwe to Switzerland but despite her Swiss nationality she never felt at home in Europe. Eleven years later, the author realised that her life had to change; she once again needed to enjoy the feeling of total freedom, the peace of untouched nature. She had to escape from western civilisation and wanted to discover more of our beautiful world. She seeked contact with natives who take care of their environment with their century-old knowledge of a balanced coexistence, living a simple but contented life if spared of outside interference.During twelve months Maya Kreuter travelled alone through South and Central America, faced many difficult situations but experienced wonderful moments and returned to Europe enriched by what she had seen, by the people she had met – an adventure that many only dream about but never have the possibility to experience or the courage to make the first step!
