The rumours are true. The British do wash and bathe in the same water; apologise when other people bump into them; play incomprehensible sports which go on for several days without an overall winner; and flash their car headlights to mean either "Please go first" or "Get out of my way". They also have lots of unwritten etiquette like buying drinks in a pub, arriving in time for meetings and smiling when speaking which the visitor can easily transgress.
