A walking guide with 14 routes based on heritage railways which lie within the counties of southern England from the Severn and Nene Valley, Somerset in the west and to the south coast in Kent. The walks vary in length from 21/2 to 51/2 miles and each follows the route of the railway as close as public rights of way allow.
In this guide the author Alan Charles has combined his love of country walking with his enthusiasm for steam railways.
He has researched 14 walks based on heritage railways which lie within the counties of southern England from the Severn and Nene Valley to the north of the region, to Somerset in the west and to the south coast in Kent. The walks vary in length from 21/2 to 51/2 miles and each follows the route of the railway as close as public rights of way allow.
A brief history of each railway is included, along with guidance on travelling to the start of each walk, and on refreshments available at the stations.

Any profit that the author makes from the sale of this book will be donated to the charity Railway Children.

Alan Charles is the author of a number of popular walking guides for Countryside Books including pub walks and long distance walks.
