He then describes how he was greeted with a mixture of disdain and disapproval by the villagers and by downright hostility from the missionary. The book is a mixture of reportage, history and travel writing recording one man's extraordinary journey to, and time inside, an unknown village. The author's tale reaches a climax when he describes how lightning struck the village, killing a family, and he was held responsible.
