A native of Central Minnesota, David Barthel has been photographing the natural world for nearly twenty years, specializing in the landscapes of Minnesota’s Lake Superior region. Barthel holds a degree in Electrical Engineering but for the past decade has made photography his full-time occupation, where he blends his technical virtuosity with creative endeavors. Barthel’s work has received numerous awards and has been published in several national and regional magazines, including Outdoor Photographer and Minnesota Monthly. He devotes much of his time to exhibiting his fine art photography at juried art fairs and festivals throughout the Upper Midwest, where his work is purchased for display in homes and businesses, both locally and around the world. Barthel currently resides in his hometown of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. In the rare moments that he is not actively engaged in his photographic pursuits, he enjoys bicycling, traveling, and spending time outdoors and with family.
