Steve Raymer, a former National Geographic staff photographer, is professor emeritus at the Indiana University Media School. A National Press Photographers Association "Magazine Photographer of the Year," he has received awards from the Overseas Press Club and the White House News Photographers Association. His previous books include St. Petersburg and Living Faith: Inside the Muslim World of Southeast Asia. He lives in Bloomington, Indiana.
