Within each sub-region the book describes the history, archaeology and antiquities of the area and includes cycle tours, walking holidays as well as "ecotours" designed to appeal to the environmentally aware. There is also a good beach guide, suggestions for amusing children on rainy days as well as guides to shopping, sports and other leisure activities. Guides to local antiquities and national monuments are also included in addition to an accommodation guide that lists hotels, campsites, youth hostels and other forms of officially registered accommodation.

Trish Fitzpatrick is a freelance writer who lives in Moycullen, County Galway. Tony Whilde is an ecologist based near Oughterard, County Galway where he runs the Corrib Conservation Centre. He is the co-author of New Ireland Walk Guide: West and North The Illustrator Padraic Reaney is an Irish Artist with a studio in Moycullen, County Galway. His work has appeared in major exhibitions in Ireland as well as Europe, the United States, Canada, Brazil and Japan, and is in many public and private collections in these countries.
