Australia is a land of diversity and contains many World Heritage listed wilderness areas of extraordinary beauty. With an increasing awareness of environmental issues, there is an increased desire to explore the wilderness with as little disturbance as possible to the environment. This has led to the development of eco-touring and eco-resorts which range from basic camps to five-star resorts. This work concentrates on Australia's wilderness areas, detailing outdoor activities such as four-wheel-drive tours, bushwalking trails, canoeing, white-water rafting and observing flora and fauna. It is divided into Australia's seven states and contains 28 eco-touring regions, each featuring three tours. Chapters open with a state map and every region with a touring map. Practical information includes the best time to visit, how to get there, where to find visitor centres and park offices for additional information and accommodation and camping facilities.
