Jade Eckardt was raised on Hawaii's Big Island. She has traveled the world, but her favorite place to be is on a beach in Kaua‘i. Her memories of the island include exploring the Na Pali Coast with her two younger brothers seventeen years ago and, more recently, celebrating her son's first birthday while camping at her favorite beach, Polihale. Jade began traveling in her late teens, an addiction that led to a graffiti of passport stamps from Southeast Asia, the Pacific, Europe, and Africa. She majored in anthropology at the University of Hawai‘i, and while she was there, a creative non-fiction assignment in an English class spurred her interest in writing, and she jumped into an intensive course for news writing. She now works as a freelance magazine writer and as a staff writer at The Hawaii Independent. Having enjoyed the sun, surf, and spirit of Kaua‘i throughout her life, Jade's mission now is to offer travelers insider knowledge about the island that can transform a vacation to Kaua‘i from a checklist of must-see attractions into an unforgettable adventure. She is on a perpetual journey to discover good food, great beer, uncrowded waves, and local culture wherever she goes.
