The first English translation of a book originally published in 1938 by the Dutch writer and explorer Hendrick Tillema. The book describes his travels in central Borneo. The text is illustrated with over 250 photographs taken by the author.
Hendrik Tillema (1870-1952) was a well-known Dutch writer and traveller who devoted much of his distinguished career as a hygienist to the study of the then Netherlands East Indies, Borneo in particular. Professor Victor King of the University of Hull's Centre for South-East Asian Studies has produced this English edition of Tillema's work, which is illustrated with over 250 photographs taken by the author. This edition includes a lengthy introduction to the author and his work, a glossary, and bibliographies.
