This guide has been edited from material gathered by 12 contributors all of whom either live or travel regularly in Greece. It combines historical and cultural insights, taking the reader from Athens to the remote regions of the islands, the central and northern mainland and the Pelopennese.

Twelve contributors, nine of whom live in Greece year-round, combine historical and cultural insights with a feel for modern Greece as they take the reader through the city of Athens, the remote northern and central reaches of the mainland and the Peloponnese. The "Penguin Guide to Greece" aims to provide comprehensive coverage of the Greek islands, over 35 in all, including, Crete and Corfu, with a special emphasis on making them easily accessible to a first-time visitor.
