The spiced aroma of frangipani, sweeping beaches, dramatic landscapes inhabited by beautiful peoplethese are the popular images of Bali, but the fabled island is also a magnet for celebrities, artists, and eccentrics. Featuring beautiful original photography, this lush volume explores the many facets of the mythical island of Bali, from its verdant topography and deeply rooted traditions and rituals, to the recent influx of expat artists and new age entrepreneurs. In the Spirit of Bali concludes with a guide to resorts, villas, spas, restaurants, temples, holistic resources, sightseeing, and recreation."

A longtime resident of Bali, British-born Duncan Murray Kirk is an eco-conscious materials designer whose goal is to reconcile nature with technology and to promote sustainable design. He worked in the music and technology industries in the UK and in Australia before first visiting Bali in 1980, and the island became a catalyst for his creative endeavors. Kirk has produced eco-friendly accessories for fashion labels including Monsoon, Jigsaw, and Esprit, and he developed Meshglass, a stained-glass decor surfacing that combines traditional Balinese craftsmanship with digital design. Previously he wrote Bali: Sustainable Visions with photographer Isabella Ginanneschi.
