Oregon residents W. C. McRae and Judy Jewell offer a unique perspective on their home state's beautiful coastal region
Outdoor enthusiasts W. C. McRae and Judy Jewell share their extensive knowledge of coastal Oregon, from the best places to grab a seaside snack to the most scenic hikes along the Coastal Trail. McRae and Jewell also outline a variety of suggested travel strategies, including Riding the Pacific Waves, Foraging the Coast, and Coastal Road Trip,a 10-day itinerary for a tour of the entire coast. With endless options for inn-hopping and surfing along the state's southern beaches, Moon Coastal Oregon gives travellers the tools they need to create a more personal and memorable experience.

Between the two of them, Bill McRae and Judy Jewell have lived in and traveled around Oregon for more than 50 years. During this time, they've also strayed out of state to research and write Moon guides to Montana, Utah, and southern Utah's national parks (like Zion and Bryce). As they turned their attention to Moon Coastal Oregon, Bill admitted that he was up for a trip (or three) to Yachats. And Judy was eager to return to Brookings, where she'd worked for the Forest Service back in the 1980s. "I could go surfing!" she realized. Bill had his own revelation: "I could forage for mussels, and get some really fresh tuna down at the docks." Those temptations, combined with the promise of hikes and blustery storms, make Oregon's coast irresistible. Bill has written for Frommer's, Lonely Planet, and Mobil Guides, and 1000 Places to See in the USA and Canada Before You Die. He has also edited books for National Geographic and provided content for websites like GORP and Expedia. Judy graduated from Reed College and worked at Portland's renowned Powell's Books for 14 years as a book buyer and manager, until she decided to leave to write travel books. When she's not traveling around the West, she now works as a technical and scientific editor and a yoga teacher. Bill and Judy both live in Portland, Oregon.
