The 10 cycle routes range between 5 and 34 miles long, and many of the routes can be linked together to create longer rides perhaps taken over a few days. All of the cycle routes are on old railway trackbeds that offer a network of traffic free paths for walkers, cyclists and horse-riders. County Durham is remarkably varied - wild moorlands, gentle countryside, riverside walks, nature reserves, heritage sites, railway paths and the low cliff coast, passing Roman forts, ancient churches and castles.
Paddy Dillon is a prolific outdoor writer with over 60 guidebooks to his name, as well as more than a dozen booklets and brochures.
