An illustrated guide to the fascinating collection at the Zhejiang Museum in China providing a panoramic view of the history, art and culture of China, south of the Yangtze.
The Zhejiang Museum is situated in the provincial capital Hangzhou - one of the most beautiful and cultured cities of China - particularly famous for its tea and silk, and for the sublime beauty of its West Lake. The museum is located on two sites - the oldest at the foot of Gushan Mountain on the shore of the West Lake. The Wulin branch is downtown by the Grand Canal, exhibiting both Zhejiang's cultural history and provincial revolutionary history. The collection features regional items such as the pottery, lacquer, wooden ware, bone tools and ivory artefacts of the Hemudu Culture, jade ware of the Liangzhu culture, bronzes and primitive porcelain of the Kingdom of Yue, celadon of the Yue, Longquan and other kilns, mirrors made in Huiji and Huzhou, gold and silver coins of the Southern Song dynasty, and paintings and calligraphy of the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Chen Hao is the Director of Zhejiang Provincial Museum.
