This book describes the pilgrimage of a man who opens himself up to the
special atmosphere of an ancient pilgrim's way, but does not allow himself to be swept away, on a wave of Camino de Santiago euphoria. It was often the little things, which surprised and impressed. For over 10 years, the author has taken a cycling tour, alone, for two weeks, every year. After a serious heart-attack in 2007, he set off to Spain, mainly to prove to himself, that he could still tackle such a long and demanding journey, alone, on his bike. In four stages, of two weeks each (2007 2010), he rode 2,093 miles (3,369 km) from his hometown in Northern Bavaria, through parts of Germany, Switzerland, France and Spain to Santiago de Compostela. In this book, he describes the experiences, challenges and difficulties of this cycling trip, the fear of a night in Alsace, two pieces of paradise on the edge of the Alps, mistakes and their consequences, overnight stays in monasteries, pilgrim's hostels and hotels, the great silence of the Chartreuse, language barriers, logistical solutions and the friendliness and helpfulness of people. Everything is possible, every problem can be solved, somehow. He deliberately describes only his personal thoughts and experiences. Information about buildings, towns or historical details are readily available, in more than enough detail on the internet these days.
