Tom Dirlis first visited Prague in the spring of 1999, and immediately fell in love with its history, mystique, and impossibly cheap beer. He began writing travel and opinion pieces for the city's local publications in order to support himself. After a trip to Budapest helped him realize that an entire, underreported region existed, he soon branched out to cover other areas of Eastern Europe. Many years and more than a million words later, Tom continues to write articles, editorials, and short fiction pieces that are heavily influenced by the massive changes that have occurred in Central Europe over the last decade. He was a finalist in Prague's first ever playwriting competition in 2007, and is currently in negotiations to pen a full-length account of life in Prague during the years of Franz Kafka's brief yet fascinating literary career.
