Over the last forty years, The Ubiquitous Chip has played a central role not only in the culinary history of Glasgow but also in the revitalisation of the city's West End and the establishment of Glasgow as an international arts capital. To celebrate its anniversary, Martin Gray tells the story of the Chip and its inspirational founder, Ronnie Clydesdale, who revolutionised the restaurant scene in Glasgow and made the Chip one of Scotland's best known restaurants. In addition to interviews with countless artists, writers, musicians and others who have formed part of the Chip's large and devoted clientele over the years, Martin Gray also looks at the changing face of food fashion over four decades by featuring recipes from the Chip's menu. Martin Gray studied Fine Art at Central Saint Martin's School of Art, London. His major solo photographic exhibition staged at Glasgow Art Gallery & Museum, Kelvingrove, entitled 'Barras People' received over 150,000 visitors and major press coverage. He has worked extensively with Random House on photographic assignments; illustrated the award-winning River Cafe Cookbook series for Ebury Press; and ghostwritten several books, including EastEnders' Sid Owen. His work within the music industry includes album covers, promotional/documentary work and music videos for artists such as The Proclaimers, Belle and Sebastian and Capercaillie/Karen Matheson. He lives in the West End of Glasgow.
