The significance of the Holy City, Jerusalem, to the world's Muslims, Christians and Jews is immense. This volume of photographs - sourced from the Palestine Exploration Fund - captures the daily life of the city from the middle of the last century until World War I, revealing its true face.

Colin Osman was editor of The PhotoHistorian journal and editor and publisher of Creative Camera. In 1989 he was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society. He collected photographs and researched photographers working in Egypt for many years, and his collection includes the works of well-known and lesser-known photographers and early postcard-makers.

The population of Jerusalem; the city walls; the holy sepulchre; the dome of the rock; the Jews; Arab life; the way ahead.
