This title showcases the multifaceted attractions of Franschhoek - one of the country's most important wine-growing regions and a mecca for gourmets. Furthermore, it is well known for its exquisite beauty, fascinating history and the other produce of its valley including salmon, fruit and chocolate. In addition to a wonderful cookbook featuring its chefs, restaurateurs and entrepreneurs, this celebration of Franschhoek takes one on a luxurious journey into the heart and soul of this corner of South Africa that is pure Gallic in essence. Some of the establishments that are included are: Haute Cabriere, Le Quartier Francais, Grande Provence, Bouillabaisse, La Residence, Rueben's, Genot, Dieu Donne. A few signature recipes are included from each restaurant, as well as a suggested wine match for each dish. The well-researched text is accompanied by full-colour photography of the food, the locations and the people. It is the ultimate souvenir.

After a decade as food and lifestyle writer for the Cape Argus, Myrna Robins added travel and wine to her portfolio as a freelancer for local and online publications. She has published five books, contributes to Fodor's Guide to Southern Africa and was an international juror for the Slow Food Movement and founding member of its Cape Town convivium. Myrna was the first recipient of the Galliova award for best South African food writer in the newspaper division, winning again in 1994. She is passionate about Cape history, beauty and gastronomy. With a family tree that stretches back to 1652 when the first European settlers landed in Table Bay, Myrna is well qualified to entice readers to meander through her homeland regions.
