This handy guidebook contains route descriptions for 11 challenging day walks plus a 5-day coastal walk on Jura, Islay and Colonsay in the Southern Hebrides. The routes range from 5 to 30km with the multi-day route at 77km and cover a multitude of rough terrain that is suitable for fit, competent walkers as even the coastal walks offer challenges.
A guide to the best walking on Scotland's remote Southern Hebrides - Jura, Islay, Colonsay and Oronsay - featuring one classic 5-day wilderness trek along the west coast of Jura and 11 day walks across the islands, include a round of the iconic Paps of Jura, from bases such as Port Askaig, Port Ellen and Scalasaig. Jura, Islay and Colonsay offer some of wildest scenery in the British Isles - but the terrain is tough and almost entirely pathless. This new guide opens up the area to the experienced walker, describing many previously unpublished routes. The west coast of Jura boasts outstanding geological features, stunning beaches and abundant wildlife. Islay is lower-lying and more developed but also has many kilometres of scenic coastline and is particularly famous for its birdlife, its historical sites and, of course, its distilleries. And Colonsay is a gem with a tranquil character all its own, echoing much of the natural splendour of its neighbours. As well as detailed descriptions of 12 walks across the three islands, this book is packed with information about their natural and cultural histories, and illustrated with OS maps and colour photographs.

Peter Edwards grew up in Sussex and nurtured a love of walking amid the hills of the South Downs. He has undertaken numerous walking and cycling expeditions in Europe and beyond and is drawn to wild and remote landscapes in particular. He moved to Glasgow in 2006.
