Gerard Dominic Pillai was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He attended St Josephs College, Colombo before joining the newly formed tri-service Sir John Kotelawela Defence Academy. After graduating with a Degree in Physics from the University of Colombo, he was commissioned in the Sri Lanka Army. He migrated to Australia before seeing active service. Gerard is passionate about travel. He spends as much time as possible in Africa, usually self-driving a Land Rover and camping. Other interests include bird and wildlife watching, and photography.
