After purchasing his first motorcycle--a Harley-Davidson--in 2004, John Gussenhoven almost immediately planned an epic cross-country road trip, the kind that many dream about but few actually make. Crisscrossing America is a photographic journal of his two-year, two-leg journey crisscrossing the United States--from Mt. Vernon, Washington, to Naples, Florida, and from San Diego, California, to Eastport, Maine. In this truly unique celebration of the United States, breathtaking aerial photographs by Jim Wark accompany the many ground-level photographs of small towns, roadside oddities, and beautiful scenery taken by Gussenhoven as he discovered America one mile at a time.
John Gussenhoven was born in Mexico City, Mexico, to American parents (and a family that included two sets of boy-girl twins). He spent most of his youth in Mexico, Peru, Venezuela, Brazil, and Argentina-and completed his secondary and college education in the United States. He served in the U.S. Army before starting his career in business, first as a banker and then as an executive and partner of the largest privately-held insurance brokerage firm in the world. Mr. Gussenhoven's interests include photography, sailing, writing, flying, and cycling. He is a type-rated jet pilot and has bicycled across America. He is married and has a son.
