This indispensable guide offers practical advice on the range of immigration issues, which can arise in the police station. Providing essential coverage of both immigration and criminal practice, it takes the reader through the situations that clients may face, offering advice on practice and conduct, illustrated using case studies. This fully updated third edition has been revised to take account of the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002 and the Asylum and Immigration (Treatment of Claimants) Act 2004, which have made substantive changes to the law. Key revisions and new material includes: changes to the Immigration Rules (including country lists, categories of stay and other criteria); updated information on the system of immigration enforcement action; chapter on criminal offences introduced by the Asylum and Immigration (Treatment of Claimants) Act 2004, updated information on other immigration offences and discussion of the immigration aspects of these criminal cases; the amended immigration appeal system; updates on detention and bail in the police station; and changes to the funding regime.
This useful and concise guide is invaluable for all criminal practitioners, including duty solicitors and accredited legal advisers.
