Helen Arnold is Associate Professor in Criminology at the University of East Anglia, UK, where she is Director of the Law with Criminology and BA Criminology programmes. Her research centres on the role and performance of prison officers, staff-prisoner relationships, the effects of prison work and emotional intelligence within prisons.

Matthew Maycock is Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Monash University, Australia. He has extensive experience of undertaking research within prison settings and previously worked for Scottish Prison Service. He has co-edited four collections analysing aspects of life in prison and is co-editor of the International Journal of Prisoner Health.
