Tort is possibly one of the most interesting of all the law subjects, yet equally one of the most conceptually and functionally difficult. Tort has a variety of objects and purposes and a comprehensive definition is elusive. Its functions are equally diverse. This new cases and materials book recognises this conceptual and functional difficulty and puts the emphasis on problem-solving and method in tort. It provides the basic materials in a concise and focused way with enough material to gain a solid understanding of the most important areas of tort. Each chapter, section and extract is introduced by a short author's note and each extract is linked to the next note, followed by a question to provoke. These notes concisely explain the importance of every case and text extracted and how such material might be used in a problem-solving context. In addition, the book draws upon European influences which the judges themselves are now finding of importance in difficult cases.

Geoffrey Samuel is a Professor at Kent Law School and a Visiting Professor at the Sorbonne and elsewhere in Europe. He is the author of Sourcebook on Obligations and Legal Remedies, Law of Obligations and Legal Remedies, Epistemology and Legal Method and An Introduction to Contractual and Tortious Obligations.
