Law practice is a business. Like every other industry, it is affected by improvements in technology and general changes in society. If you plan to practice law in the next ten to 40 years, you must be prepared to adapt to the changing landscape while meeting your ethical obligations.

Braving evolution and working to adapt within a staid profession can be frightening, but it is also exciting. With guidelines on topics from ethics to office management, changes in payment technologies, managing client expectations, and gaining competence in new practice areas, this book will prepare you to stare down any fears and prepare you for lawyering in today's world and in tomorrow's.

Megan Zavieh focuses her practice exclusively on attorney ethics, representing attorneys facing State Bar disciplinary action, providing guidance to practicing attorneys, podcasting about legal ethics on Lawyers Gone Ethical, and writing about ethics at AttorneyatWork.com and her own blog CaliforniaStateBarDefense.com. Megan has always done things her own way, and her legal career has been no different. After a Federal clerkship and New York BigLaw career, she transitioned to supporting attorneys facing difficult professional times. She found her passion and never looked back. She believes that her mission to support lawyers can be fulfilled in countless innovative ways, and she is constantly striving to develop new tools to make defending and avoiding State Bar complaints easier and less costly. To that end, she created The Playbook: The California Bar Discipline System Practice Guide, a digital product for selfrepresented lawyers facing discipline. Megan speaks at legal conferences around the country. She has recently presented at ABA TECHSHOW, Clio Cloud Conference, the California Lawyers Association Annual Meeting, Continuing Education of the Bar’s Basics Conference, the State Bar of Georgia Solo and Small Firm Institute, and the Tennessee Lawyers’ Association for Women Annual Empowerment Conference. Megan earned her J.D. at age 21 from the University of California at Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall) in 1999, graduating Order of the Coif. After clerking for the Honorable Evan J. Wallach at the U.S. Court of International Trade in New York, she went on to practice securities litigation at three top firms in the New York area. In 2007, Megan returned to California. In 2009, she began working with members of the California State Bar who were facing disciplinary action. She has provided full scope representation and associated counsel assistance at all stages of the disciplinary process. In 2011, Megan's family temporarily relocated to Sydney, Australia for her husband's employment with a Big Four accounting firm. She worked remotely for her US clients from Australia, handling all client matters using technology, including document sharing and video conferencing. In mid-2012, her family returned stateside, settling in Atlanta, Georgia. She continues to use technology to support her virtual practice, primarily serving clients in California. Megan is admitted to practice before the state courts in California, New York, New Jersey and Georgia; Federal District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of California, the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the District of New Jersey; the United States Courts of Appeals for the 9th and 11th Circuits; and the United States Supreme Court.
