This workbook aims to give the midwife an understanding of the legal system and those areas of the law that affect the practice of midwifery. It has been designed for midwives to work through themselves and contains practical tasks, activities and questions for midwives to complete to improve their knowledge of the law relating to the rights of the mother and child. Each section is concerned with a specific area of law including: the legal system; professional accountability; client centred care - consent to treatment and information giving; records, confidentiality and access; civil liability - negligence; employment contracts; health and safety law; community midwifery and midwife managed units; the law relating to medication and specific areas of the law relating to midwifery.
