Mergers and acquisitions have gained a significant position in the corporate landscape in India. While this is so, the law relating to this field is still at its nascent stage, facing several emerging challenges. This collection of papers, selected pursuant to the NLIU Trilegal Summit on Mergers and Acquisitions, 2018, highlights some of these challenges, bringing to the fore the inter-relationship between mergers and acquisitions and other areas such as anti-trust, taxation, foreign direct investment, and insolvency. An endeavour of National Law Institute University, Bhopal, India, this work serves as a guide to both students and practitioners working in the area of mergers and acquisitions at a time when India is being looked at as a favourable investment destination.

Deeksha Malik is an Associate at Khaitan and Co, a law firm in India. A graduate of the National Law Institute University, Bhopal, India, she served as Convenor of the Centre for Business and Commercial Laws (CBCL), the student body in the University that organised the NLIU Trilegal Summit on Mergers and Acquisitions in 2018. Having a keen interest in the areas of corporate law, arbitration, and securities laws, she started The CBCL Blog, which publishes articles from students of different law schools in India in the aforementioned areas. Her own publications include Corruption in International Commercial Arbitration: Arbitrability, Admissibility and Adjudication and The Curious Case of Participatory Notes in the Indian Securities Market. Aishwarya Choudhary is an Associate at Trilegal, a tier-one law firm in India. He completed his LLB degree at the National Law Institute University, Bhopal, India.
